A couple months ago when we mentioned to Amy & Kevin our plans to see the Grand Canyon, they decided to join us, and we made it one big RV road trip. Packing for such unknown territory as an RV was challenging and stressful (for me, at least). Especially thinking about packing for and travelling with a baby! This trip totally snuck up on me, and when I discovered the judgy internet moms' consensus that RVing with a baby is not safe and you're basically a terrible mother if you do such a thing—well that just made me even more worryful. (Yeah, I just made up a word.) But alas...the RV was booked, K&A had their flights to Vegas, where we'd meet up, and there was nowhere to go but forward. :)
The day before we left, the RV place told us our booked RV had broken down, and they'd provide us with a slightly smaller and older model. Grrrrreat...
We left for Vegas around Ada's afternoon naptime, and the drive went relatively well—Ada slept for a portion of it, and we hit zero traffic. We checked in to the newly renovated Tropicana, but other than a flashy front desk, the rest of the hotel seemed dated. And oh my goodness, what a walk to the room from the entrance/casino! You have to upgrade if you don't want a trek. I would've loved to have taken advantage of the pool there, but it was closing as we got there. It did look nice and new, unlike the rooms.
We didn't get to see Amy and Kevin, who arrived by plane that evening and went to dinner with Kevin's sister. We spent a fitful night on an uncomfortable bed while Ada cried off and on for an hour and a half—eek! I think since she could see us, she was extra upset. And we made the mistake of going to her a couple times, which only served to prolong the process of settling. Oh and the pack and play the hotel provided was SO hard and uncomfortable! Poor girl.
