June Vacay to La Quinta

The things you do for family, amiright?? Like voluntarily visit the desert when it's forecasted to be 118°.

We decided to join our cousins for some pool time in the hot sun. We stayed at the Embassy Suites, while they rented a house. Our room had a kitchen, living room, and one bedroom. Ryan slept in the closet, which also housed the AC unit that kept cycling on and off throughout the night, which was not ideal for him or me, lover of constant white noise that I am.

Friday

The drive went smoothly once we got out of traffic and bad drivers. Both kids napped relatively well. Win!
Settled into our room, went swimming in the pool that was a mere ten feet from our room, then out for Mexican for dinner.

Saturday

Breakfast at the hotel--the famous made-to-order omelettes. Then hung out for the rest of the day at the cousins' place (very near where Cliff's dad used to have a vacation house). We were either in the house or in the pool all day. It was so hot that I felt like my skin was burning from the heat, and the moisture was being sucked out by the minute. But the water made it bearable to be outside. Both kids loved the pool, although Ada is no fun to swim with--she's pretty scared of swimming and has a death-grip on you when you hold her. She had fun being held by Kyla and Bella though. Kevin barbecued like a boss for lunch and dinner. Back to hotel for kids' bedtime. Ada didn't nap (allegedly because the girls were too loud outside in the pool), so the last part of the day was dicey.

I need to vent that I hate having to be quiet in the room at 7:30. And our stupid TV remote in our room is AWFUL. It has nearly prevented me from watching Jeopardy each night. Ugh!

Sunday

Happy Father's Day, Cliff! Omelette-y breakfast again, a little library time (library room at our hotel--pretty neat, with lots of books and games) spent Ryan's nap in our hotel room, then stopped at Old Town Coffee Co. + grocery store (for bread to make sandwiches with leftover BBQ!) on the way to the cousins' place.

Like the day before, we spent most of the day in the pool or inside. Ada once again had fun following Bella around, and being held in the pool. Both kids napped (even Ada--yes!!) at the house. Cheesy DIY shows and Fixer Upper were our TV food all weekend (apparently there are some crazy pools being built in America). We ate so much. What else is there to do when you're swimming or trapped inside all day?! Beer and watermelon margaritas were also on order.

Ryan had a terrible time sleeping that night, and thinking maybe he was too hot, we moved him out of the closet and into our room. He did settle down for the most part, after that, but of course I was awake at every little movement from him or sound from Cliff (as per usual). Every time Ryan goes from sleeping well at night to crying even for a few minutes, I get SO anxious and think something is terribly wrong. Ugh! It's silly to hope I will ever sleep well again, right? I'm unsure I EVER slept well pre-kids, so yeah. It's a silly thought.

Monday

Breakfast, library, then packed up and drove home during Ryan's morning nap. Banh Mi San Marcos for lunch. Back to real life!
