Day 2: Antelope Canyon + Grand Canyon

The morning of day 2, Cliff made us omelettes, and we sipped our Starbucks instant coffee while viewing our campground and Lake Powell for the first time. The campground was so nice!

Our first task of the day after packing up was driving to Antelope Canyon, which is on Navajo land and can only be seen on guided tours. 

This place was insanely expensive. $48/person and like $25 for 0-12 yr olds?! So yeah, we spent well over $100 to do this little excursion. One of the guides told Kevin to bring as much water as he could, so we were all thinking it would be this crazy strenuous hike and (judging by the price tag) insanely cool experience. It was indeed a really neat place to visit, but I don't think they should charge so much.

Is Ada appreciating her $25 experience? We'll never know. Since she won't remember it. >:-|

I should also mention that our "guide" was pretty much useless. He kept repeating the same couple of facts and stories while taking pictures with people's cameras to reveal "interesting" shapes in the rocks like a heart or shark. Meh. Maybe it was the faint sense of claustrophobia rising in me as we slowly squeezed past hundreds of other tourists in the narrow passage, coupled with that nauseating price tag fresh in my mind, but my recommendation would be to skip this phenomenon and "see" it on the internet instead.

We drove past the huge line of cars now waiting to get in and headed to get gas. We parked and made lunch there (so romantic!) in the comfort of our "home."

Grand Canyon

Then we headed to the Grand Canyon. We stopped at Desert View, Grandview Point, and Mather Point.

The Grand Canyon is...well, grand! It's hard to fathom its grandness when you're looking at it. I'd like to go back one day.

We got annoyed with people using the RV parking spots for their little cars. The last stop (Mather Point) was the most crowded. We saw some elk while trying to find a parking spot.

We left the viewing area to settle down at our campground in Tusayan and have a beer or glass of wine or two, then walked to Wendy's for a fancy dinner.

As we were leaving, heading toward a big statue of an elk, Amy said, "Is that an elk?!" We thought she was being funny; then we realized she was pointing to an actual elk roaming the street and blocking traffic. We watched him for awhile. Then, back at the RV, we put Ada to bed and roasted s'mores!
