Freezing in Freeland

We had a lazy morning watching hawks pester squirrels while we ate breakfast. We chatted and daydreamed about where we'd all eventually live. Vegas was the most preposterous suggestion, from my dad. My mom thinks perhaps North or South Carolina. Justin is thinking South Dakota or some such place. Me? Seattle sounds great, but I still think SLO would be ideal. Could I ever leave California?? And of course Cliff is perfectly content to stay in San Diego.

After breakfast, Justin, Dad, and I explored the property more. It was bigger than we thought!
I love this pic!

We drove down to a little beach nearby to check it out, but it was freezing cold and overcast, so we didn't even exit the vehicle. A drive-thru coffee trip was in order. We then headed over to the Dufault picnic at Freeland Park. Despite the weather and my freezing most of the time, it was a lovely day to further catch up with family and talk more with some of Janie/Ian's friends. We stayed for quite some time—Frisbeeing and croqueting and eating delicious BBQ and other things. The cousins strolled the shore for a bit, gazing at purple shells and jellyfish. The water was so serene! During Ada's naptime, Cliff postponed his lunch so he could drive Ada around while she slept.

I borrowed these disheveled boots from our house stash

After the picnic and a long Dufault goodbye (of course!), some folks came back to our rental house—Sarah and parents; Tim and Mary. Tim and Mary stayed for awhile and we all sat chatting by the fire. Mary spotted a Great Horned Owl! So neat!

Can you see the tiny spot of an owl on the rightmost branch of the righthand tree?
