Goodbye Dixie, Hello San Antonio

After our last cowboy breakfast, Ada spent some time with her new friends. The older kids loved asking Ada what sounds different animals make.

Cliff stayed back with Ada while the rest of us went for our last horse ride on the ranch. I didn't enjoy riding Socks as much as the other horses, as he would randomly stop in the middle of the path and require me to kick him a bunch to get him going again.

A neat scene right out of the corral: longhorn calves breakfasting with their parents.
After the ride, it was time to pack up and check out. Ada and Uncle Justin managed to squeeze in a little "soccer" match before I took her to the gift shop, where she decided she needed allllll the purses. Grammy spoiled her with just one.

Ada napped as we drove to San Antonio. We settled into our hotel, the Drury Riverwalk, which used to be a bank and has pretty art deco stained glass and some of the old vaults down in the basement—neat! Up until this point on our trip, the Texas heat had been humid but bearable with cloud cover. San Antonio not so much. It was pretty rough for this pregnant mama on our walk to the Alamo. Cliff took Ada back to the hotel to attempt another nap while the rest of us slugged through the humidity learning the history of this little landmark in the middle of the city. We took a long route along the river back to our hotel. It certainly was pretty down along the river, if not a bit too touristy with the dime-a-dozen Tex-Mex restaurants crowding the banks.

We took part in the hotel "kickback" hour which consisted of terrible cocktails, food that we didn't eat since we wanted to dine along the river, and popcorn which Ada enjoyed. Our final stop for the evening was The Esquire tavern. Pretty darn good, I'd say!
